8/30/13 – Fort Worth All Saints 70; Brownwood 27

The first game of the 2013 season took place at Gordon Wood stadium in Brownwood, Texas.  Fort Worth All Saints returned 15 starters from their 2012 SPC Small School championship team and were ranked #14 in the national small school poll put out by Max Preps.  Defensive Coordinator Chuck Howard took over the reigns of the Brownwood Lions when former coach Bob Shipley left for the 40 acres in Austin to serve on Mack Brown’s staff.  Brownwood was a playoff team in 2012 and ranked 25th in 3A according to Lone Star Gridiron.

Game Summary
It was over early.  The Saints looked well coached and their star players looked every bit the part.  QB Foster Sawyer completed 20 passes to 10 different receivers and the 2nd team was in early in the second half.

*Almost being in a huge wreck on the way to our first game

*After having a punt downed at the one foot line, FW All Saints through deep over the middle on first down.  If the receiver hadn’t stumbled making an adjustment on the ball, it would have been a 99 yard TD pass.

Aug 30, 2013 – East Palace

We picked East Palace because several people on the tour had eaten there before and a Chinese buffet sounded great.  Most people probably wouldn’t expect Brownwood to have a good Chinese option, but they’d be wrong.  The sushi is good for  a buffet and they do make it fresh.  There is a Mongolian stir fry that you can make, although I’ve never seen anyone using it.  The buffet is huge and even has things like frog legs, shrimp, and fish.  It would be really hard not to find something you liked.

Highlight #1: The sushi with the crab meat on top

Highlight #2: The inability to spell “Mongolian” (see picture)

Highlight #3: Bathrooms have colored glass that looks pretty nice, but labeled “Man” and “Female”

Texas Tour score: 7.7/10
